In 1934 WOC-AM, Davenport, Iowabecame KICK-AM.

In 1927 experimental BBC broadcasts to the Empire began from Chelmsfordon 5SW, a short wave station.

In 1938 singer Kate Smith sang, for the first time, "God Bless America" by Irving Berlin on network radio.

In 2003, actor Art Carney died. Although best known for his character as "Ed Norton" on "The Honeymooners" TV show, Carney was a voice actor in the 1930's on the weekly Radio show "Gangbusters" and part of "The March of Time" repertory company. He also worked jobs in Radio from 1942 - 1949.

In 2008, baseball play-by-play announcer/former major league pitcher (Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox) Herb Score, a Cleveland Indians radio and TV broadcaster for 33 years, died at the age of 75.
